ABOUT HUSKYMMA
Our Story
How did HuskyMMA Begin?
HuskyMMA began as a small group of UW students who realized there was no dedicated space on campus to train MMA consistently. Many of us were training at different gyms or learning on their own, which made it hard to stay connected as a group. Over time, HuskyMMA has grown and become an official RSO at the University of Washington. What started as a few students meeting to train has grown into a strong community that continues to welcome new members every day.

Our Mission
Where Huskies Train & Grow
Our mission is to provide a consistent, accessible space for students to train mixed martial arts while balancing school, work, and life at the University of Washington. We focus on building solid fundamentals that allow members to train safely and progress at their own pace. Our Monday classes balance striking and grappling techniques with conditioning drills. Our Wednesday classes feature more technical striking and Muay Thai. HuskyMMA aims to create an environment where beginners feel comfortable starting out and experienced members can continue to sharpen their skills.
FAQ’s
Frequently Asked Questions
New to MMA or just curious about how the club works? We’ve put together answers to the most common questions we get from students. Whether you’re a complete beginner or have prior experience, our goal is to make sure everyone feels welcome, informed, and ready to train.
Where does HuskyMMA meet?
We meet at the Intramural Activities building — 3924 Montlake Blvd NE, in Mat Room B.
When is practice?
We meet up for practice on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:30 PM. After classes end at 9:30 PM, there is open mat from 9:30 PM – 10:30 PM. There is also open mat sessions on Sundays from 2-4 PM.
What kind of equipment do I need?
The club has extra equipment available for people to borrow, but sometimes there may not be enough for everyone. If you have your own gear, you should bring gloves, shin guards, and Thai pads, but these aren’t required to participate in class.
I have no martial arts experience, can I still join the club?
Yes! The club is beginner-friendly and open to people of all experience levels.
What is training like?
We train a lot of kickboxing in this club, so our practices almost always include hitting Thai pads, especially on Wednesdays. We drill with partners at controlled paces with very specific goals in mind. Sparring will always be optional and a lot of people stick around after class to spar or drill.
